Bookkeeping in Upminster and Hornchurch

Bookkeeping you can trust, without the Sunday night slog.

Good bookkeeping is the quiet bit of running a business that makes everything else easier. When your records are right, your VAT return is quick, your year-end accounts cost less and you always know where you stand.

‍

We look after the books for sole traders, partnerships and limited companies in Upminster, Hornchurch, Cranham, Romford, Brentwood and across Essex. You send us your paperwork, or give us access to your software, and we take it from there.

‍

What's included

  • Recording your sales, purchases and expenses
  • Matching every bank and card payment (bank reconciliation)
  • Keeping track of who owes you money, and who you owe
  • Sorting receipts and bills so nothing gets missed
  • VAT-ready records that meet Making Tax Digital rules
  • A short monthly or quarterly summary of how you're doing

‍

Behind on your books?

It happens to the best of us. If you've got a shoebox of receipts or months of bank statements nobody has looked at, our catch-up bookkeeping will get you back on track. No lectures, just tidy books.

‍

How it works

First we agree how often you need us: weekly, monthly or quarterly. We can usually work in the software you already use, or help you pick something simple if you don't have any yet. Then we keep your records up to date and flag anything you should know about, like a big bill on the way or a customer who's slow to pay.

‍

Why use a local bookkeeper?

Brickfield Hollow is a family-run firm based in Upminster. You deal with Phil and Rachel, not a call centre. Lots of our clients start with bookkeeping and then hand over their VAT, payroll and year-end accounts too, so everything sits in one place with people who know their business.

"Phil has assisted me with my tax return over the last few years. He is so knowledgeable and is always happy to answer any questions I have. Great service and reliable!"

Get In Touch
Do I need a bookkeeper or an accountant?

Often you need a bit of both. A bookkeeper keeps your day-to-day records straight. An accountant uses those records to prepare your accounts and tax returns and to give advice. We do both, so you only need one firm.

How often will you do my bookkeeping?

As often as your business needs. Most small businesses go monthly. Busy firms with lots of sales may go weekly, and smaller sole traders are often fine with quarterly.

Can you work with my accounting software?

We can usually work with the software you already use. If you're still on paper or spreadsheets, we'll help you choose a simple cloud package and set it up for you.

Can you help if my books are months behind?

Yes. Our catch-up bookkeeping sorts out old records, gets your bank balances matching and makes sure you're ready for your next VAT return or tax deadline.

Is my bookkeeping ready for Making Tax Digital?

Making Tax Digital means keeping digital records and sending updates to HMRC through approved software. It already applies to VAT, and from April 2026 it started for sole traders and landlords with income over £50,000. We'll set your books up so they follow the rules.
